7 Easy and Powerful tips to increase your store speed

70% of online shoppers expect a store to load within 2 seconds and 30% of them will leave a store if it takes more than 3 seconds to load. So yes! Your store speed matters.

In today's blog post, I am going to give you 7 easy and powerful tips to increase your store speed so make sure to apply all of them to keep your customers satisfied and happy!

If you prefer to watch the video version of this blog post you can find it here below

#1 Test your store speed

It is very essential to test your store speed, not only once but regularly so that you can make sure that nothing slows down your store.

To test your store speed I recommend you to use these tools:

  • Pingdom
  • Google Page Speed
  • GT Metrix

In addition to testing your own store speed, start testing your competitors' stores speed, because in this way you can compare your store speed to the market and know exactly where do you stand.

If your competitors' stores load way faster than your store, you should fix this urgently.

#2 Optimise your images

eCommerce stores are usually loaded with tons and tons of photos.

Your photos and their sizes can greatly affect your store speed, so I recommend you to optimize all the photos on your store.

In order to optimize your photos you have 2 options:

Option #1: Optimize your photos before uploading them to the store

In order to do that you can use any of these 2 tools: Resize image (this is an online website), GIMP (PC Software)

Option #2: Optimize your photos after uploading them to the store.

In order to do that you can use this Shopify App.

#3 Avoid Sliders on your Homepage

I know sliders look very good on home pages and everyone loves them, but adding sliders will slow down your store without adding real value, so I recommend you avoid them and replace sliders with one big hero Image.

Use this photo to express your branding and everything about what makes your store unique.

#4 Minimize the number of used apps

Using many apps in your store will affect your store’s speed. Always make sure you are only using the most essential apps in your store.

If you want to know more about what are the most essential apps to use I will leave a link to previous posts and videos where I discussed this subject in details

#5 Minimize redirects and broken links

When it comes to broken links you must fix them!

Use this online tool to find your store's broken links and fix them the soonest.

When it comes to redirects and Shopify allows you to do them. I highly recommend you to only use this feature when it is unavoidable because the excess use of it will slow down your store.

#6 Make sure to use a theme that loads fast

AMP stands for accelerated mobile pages and they were first introduced by Google.

They are pages that load very fast on mobile and Google favors them. If you want to create AMP pages for your store you must use a Shopify app to do that.

#7 Use AMP pages

I am talking here about upselling and cross-selling. In one of my previous videos, I have talked about how you can increase your sales for free using advanced marketing strategies. This can highly help you to improve your sales without actually paying anything.

Don't Ignore your store speed and how deeply it affects your store customers' experience.

Try to apply all the above 7 tips and I am pretty sure they will greatly help you to fasten your store.
